Background
“More than any other country, Donald Trump went after Mexico on his first day in office. He ordered its criminal gangs to be designated as foreign terrorist organisations (FTOs), declared an emergency at the southern border, reinstated policies that leave migrants languishing on Mexican soil and ordered federal institutions to call the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America”, writes The Economist.
US President promised to deport 12 million illegal migrants. Many are expected to be land in Mexico, irrespective of their citizenship. Is Mexico ready to absorb this flow? Migrants abandoned at the Mexican border could be an easy prey for the drug cartels.
Some European political parties promise remigration? Could Mexican experience be a useful guide?
