Martin Breum is a Danish journalist and author, specialised in the Arctic affairs. Regular contributor to the media in Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Norway, and ArcticToday.com in the US. Breum has travelled extensively in the Arctic, including the Russian Arctic, Svalbard, Greenland and in the Arctic Ocean / North Pole. He wrote five books on Arctic affairs and filmed several television documentaries.  

Background
Russian-Ukrainian war affects the Arctic on diverse levels: cooperation, security, environmental programs, international scientific cooperation on the climate. Security issues encompass, inter alia, physical proximity of the warring parties and the concentration of nuclear heads, while melting ice and potential opening of the new commercial routes is increasing the interest of China and other Asian countries in the region.

Before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Arctic Council, an international organisation focusing on regional cooperation, was among the best functioning international bodies. Currently it is in crisis. One third of the Arctic belongs to Russia.

Martin Breum will address the major challenges affecting the Arctic.
